Quiksilver
All surf ads are the same sunny-day branding and we hate it. Surfers are fearless little bastards but we don’t talk about it. Its just sunny shakas and warm water vibes. Instead, check out this rebrand that we infused with the horror of the ocean that die-hard surfers seem to be insufferably immune to.
(This ad almost killed me, so I hope you like it.)
We wanted to describe the horror and power of the ocean with three metaphors - the mythical beasts Leviathan representing it’s unmatched strength, Kraken representing it’s relentless pull from shore, and Charybdis representing is endless abyss.

The waves were incredibly frequent. And if you know anything about spotting riptides, you’ll notice waves coming from different directions behind Kyland in the third picture — a clear indicator of a riptide. Too bad we are dumb and had no idea lol.
My sweet friends manning the drone simply wondered why we weren’t catching waves. We were being pulled out to sea. After minutes of intense struggle against the tide, we made it to a cove. Still needing to escape the rising tide, we climbed out of the cove in the near-dark. Rescue teams had arrived during our climb but were not optimistic about finding us. We had not been visible for nearly an hour. They hardly looked. I’m sure they thought they were just waiting for bodies.
Look at the far right of the image on the left, you can see the wall we climbed to escape the tide that was swallowing the cove. We climbed to the treeline and hiked down until we found a trail. The middle picture is from a different angle at low tide. The red line was the difference in tide, the blue is the cove, and the green was the climb. On the right, I am enjoying some survival pizza at Ranch.
